The Rose Is Gone
All that is left of my beautiful single rose of the summer is some petals scattered and a broken stem. I think the temptation was too much for some wandering deer. Hope it tasted good to him or her. By this time of year some of them are very tall and can reach over anything. My one lilac bush was destroyed as well. But fall is here and needles are covering the ground and leaves are falling. I am keeping my eye on my neighbors maple tree--it hasn't started to turn yet but I will definitely want to gather some leaves again.
