Grandniece gets written up in New York Paper!

Street Style: Ginger Lights Up the Sidewalk

Catherine Blair Pfander

Amid a sea of black umbrellas, Ginger Warburton stands out like a beacon of light clad in a simple white sundress and teal suede flats.

A living embodiment of "understated," Ginger -- who, we soon learned, works at the famous Williamsburg eatery, "Diner" -- had just biked from her apartment in Bushwick in search of lunch fare.

While Ginger may not have been prepared to choose a favorite sandwich ("I have no idea what to eat!" she laughed), when it comes to clothing, she's obviously making all the right decisions.

"This dress is actually from Urban Outfitters, if you can believe it," she explains. "It just fits me so well. I put it on in the dressing room and was like: 'Yup, getting this.'"

Her teal blue flats, which feature dozens of tiny geometric cut-outs, were purchased while traveling in Austria. "I can't believe how long these have lasted," she says. "I got them five years ago and still wear them all the time!"

Clearly, anyone who looks this pulled-together in the middle of a summer rainstorm is someone whose style we need to steal -- even if it means high-tailing to a remote Austrian boutique.

Julie Thayne Smith

Introducing my grandniece Julie Thayne Smith-- Julie lived with my sister quite a while and was always such a delight to visit with. Now she is married to Morgan and has son Nixon and has a full and exciting life. I enjoy reading her blog from time to time and added it to my other blogs I follow. I liked what she said in Facebook and I quote:

I am swimming through this life, jumping in head first as deep as I can, only coming up for air when it's absolutely necessary:)...... I don't want any regrets....... I want to ALWAYS remember my dreams and follow them with all of my heart...I hope to do my best to be worthy of the blessings I have and will receive.... What keeps me breathing and has made me who I am-? My beautiful son and husband.... The longing and hope I had as a child and as I grew up for peace and justice in this world, the pristine beauty and encompassing power of nature and our Father in Heaven's hand in ALL that is tranquil beauty around us...... Remembering when I lived in France and found and left part of my soul there and traveled through Europe to receive an expansion of my perception through my journies- I long to return and regain that part of my dormant soul and I will one day... The sweet all encompassing joy I feel going to our cabin in breathtaking Silvergate, Montana: a place where time stands still, the air is clean and crisp, wild animals roam free, and it's brilliant nature scenes engulf me... The beach of Laguna where my childhood memories come rushing at me as the waves of this life and crash into my existance. The sting of the salt and the force of the water so powerful as the strengthening sun kisses my skin.... If I have loved enough If I have served enough If I have lived enough......

What a great attitude toward life.  And... I think we have another writer in the family.

I love her blog, she has a lot of great pictures from the cabin at Silvergate.  By the way, Julie is the daughter of David Thayne, son of my sister Jeanne Thayne.  Her husband Morgan Smith is a dentist and they live in Utah.

The Anderson Relative's Roost--Silvergate, Montana

This is a picture from fun trip to the Cabin in 2005--you can see the beautiful mountain view in the window reflection.

Below is an old picture from Kristi, Richard, me, Meagan, James and Camber at the Anderson Cabin in Silvergate, Montana.  The area to the right is the proposed area for the renovated bunkhouse as described below.  Richard and I first went to the cabin as a family when John was one year old.  My Dad put a fishpole in John's hands and he loved it and he loved the cabin and came to love fishing.  Not many of our California relatives use the cabin but my descendants are entitled to two weeks a year so it is a trip everyone should plan for at least once or twice in their lifetime and see Yellowstone Park at the same time.

 From my sister Carole:
"It has been over 50 years since any major improvements to the cabin. Fuqua'a have patched the roof on the shed but now there is a serious leakage between the porch roof and cabin. It is a good time to redo the porch roof and enlarge and enclose the porch into a Bunk/Game Room or should we call it a "cousins" room. I asked Randy Smith, certified Montana cabin builder, grandson and heck of a nice guy to take charge and be the contractor. He has accepted and is now checking out prices etc. He hopes we can do this for around $3,000. If every family of the major families could contribute $600 plus or minus as you are able, we could get this project going. Dustan Diede, certified jouneyman, will do the electricity and hopefully the volunteer carpenters and worker bees will show up. We will let you know the designated weekends.

A cabin is a family history. Ferrell Anderson and 2 carpenters built the cabin in 1960. Stan Thayne put in the fireplace. Ferrell's brother-in-law put in the plumbing. Ethel Anderson, grandma, made them put in the picture window the following year. We still have much talent in the family. Randy is a cabin builder in Montana, has the know how and supplies, tools and will do an excellent job if he has help. We hope to accomplish this in several week-ends and have it available by when the time-frames begin. We will let you know the weekends so you can bring your truck, power tools and happy dispositions.

I know this seems fast but it has to be done and we have been thinking about it for years. We do not want a lodge, we want our cabin as it has been for the last years with only just a little more room. I hope we have all your cooperation and that we can continue to enjoy our little spot of heaven for many, many more years."

We hope everyone contributes.  It is amazing how well the cabin has been kept up and shared with over 100 descendants of the builder, my Dad.  He passed away in 1968 so had a short time of usage in his lifetime but he must be thrilled to know how many have come to love and use his cabin.

Silvergate has not changed that much since I first went there in the 40's and that is the beauty of it.  The view from the cabin is unbelievable of the Montana mountains and there are so many places to hike and fish in the surrounding area.  Meagan and Matt have come to love it.  I hope others plan to use it someday also.

Sherry's Memorial

I talked to my sister Marilyn and she was sharing how beautiful the Memorial was for Sherry, her daughter.  Arky was not able to go.  He is recovering from bleeding ulcers but 15 of the immediate family was able to be there and there were over 60 in total.

What was evident, when those there shared remembrances about Sherry. is that she reached out to others.  Over and over people said things like "Sherry was the first one to visit us when we moved in, she brought us a lemon pie or whatever.  It seems she enjoyed sharing many different treats with her new friends.  Wes, her husband, told about the first time he saw her and he thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world and was amazed when she seemed to like him, too.  Sherry  was evidently the instigator of the Book Club group and other groups over the years.  She like people and reached out to everyone she met, it sounded like.

Marilyn had brought some lovely table cloths from her home ward and Debby had provided lots of food and then the former employee of Sherry (restaurant owner) brought her favorite Red Velvet Cake plus large trays of three other types food.

Everyone enjoyed reminiscing and conversing with old friends.  Sherry was well remembered by family and friends.  It was a lovely memorial and Marilyn was so happy she, Randy and Hope were able to be there along with all of Debbie's family and Sherry's immediate family and many friends.

Update on the Twins

Sage is so serious and Raina always has a smile but what a fun pair.  It will be increasingly fun to see them as twins with such individual personalities.

Sherry

Sherry's daughter Caitland.

Sherry's son Zach and Beleca.  They are buying a condo and having a baby, working and finishing college, all at the same time.
Sherry's sister Debbie, husband Tom and daughter.  Debbie has been such a support and friend to Sherry and her family in this
past few years of sickness

I didn't have a picture of Sherry's son Steven but here is one of her dogs.

I have been thinking of Sherry, my sister's daughter today.  She passed away Tuesday night--much too young.  I was remembering when she lived with us, her eagerness to help, her always wanting to bake us something, her love of taking Zach to the Padres games.  She had such a beautiful smile and lovely eyes and spoke with such a soft voice.

I can remember well when Zach would take off running at the mall, when none of us were expecting it.  What did he hope to see?  Where did he want to go?  Just curious I guess and Sherry in pursuit.  She and John spoke the same language and were good friends but she also spent a lot of time alone, writing, thinking.   She responded well to Richard and whatever he thought she should learn.  She worked well in the business.  I remember one of our 80's Christmas cards and we did a spoof of what we were all doing.  She was touted as the hot real estate lady who was selling millions.

For Richard's and my Silver Wedding Anniversary she carved the watermelon for the salad.  I think without a doubt we all enjoyed having Sherry with us.  When she had crafted the trade of being able to process loans she wanted to leave and be with her friends in Austin and that is where she has been since.

But she soon left the boring loan business and pursued her love of cooking.  I hope she found some answers to the questions she was always pursuing.  She certainly had some beautiful children.  And she was always creative and had such great love for people and animals and plants and books.  Sherry, a very loving daughter of God.  May she find peace in heaven.

Halloween

I haven't received any pictures of grandchildren or great grandchildren dressed up for Halloween but here are Sage and Raina dressed up as Charlie Brown and Snoopy with mother Bethany the witch.  Snoopy looks a little apprehensive looking at the witch.  "Where did my mom go?"

Halloween is not my favorite holiday.  However, when we lived in Pacific Beach and the children were nine years and under Richard loved to decorate the garage with all kinds of things and a black light.  But after the children were grown we would usually escape to a movie at Seaport Village.  No children around my house here so it will be a quiet Halloween again.

Twin Update

Now, Raina, that is what I call a smile!
These cuties are still smaller than most babies are when they are born and they look like darling dolls. They remind me of the dolls I bought my girls once which could wear newborn clothes. I think I loved those dolls more than they did.
I think the next picture we get will have big smiles--this is Sage with the knowing grin on her face and Raina is observing what Sage is doing. Does that mean Sage will be the leader and Raina the follower? It will be interesting to see...Thanks for the update, Grandma Carole.

Remember Zach?

My niece Sherry and her son Zach lived with us for a time in La Jolla when Meagan was a toddler. I think Meagan was two years older than Zach. The things I remember about Zach was his love of playing 'baseball' with his Mom and the speed with which he could take off in the mall (if he had a mind to) and what a darling boy he was. And, wow, look at him now...what a handsome guy.
Meagan and Kristi, do you remember playing with Zach those many years ago??? Kristi was just a baby so doubt she does.
Zach is a Texan. Cute girlfriend is named Belaca and evidently it is serious. Zach works as a valet while finishing his classes at Auburn Community College and will be going to Texas State to complete his marketing degree. Sherry says he is very friendly and quite the salesman. I remember Marilyn telling me he has supported himself for a long time and is a very good worker and student. So nice to get acquainted with you again, Zach. Thanks for the pix, Sherry.

More of Sage and Raina

Aren't they just darling!
Grandma Carole reports they have already been out and about. I think we stayed in for weeks before venturing out into the world after our babies were born--and that was after spending a week in the hospital!! It is a whole new world.

TWINS

I think this is a first in our family--twins. My nephew Jon and his wife Bethany had twin girls-one before midnight on August 26 and one after midnight on August 27--different birthdays, is that cool or what. Their names are Sage and Raina. The family lives in beautiful Bozeman, MT.
They are fraternal twins and the report is that one looks like Jon and one looks like Bethany. Sage is on the left and Raina is on the right in Jon's arms so which looks like which??
Congratulations to the proud parents, they don't even look frazzled or tired--wow! This will be fun to watch. From the pictures I think Sage looks like Jon and Raina looks like Bethany--I wonder what the parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles all think...
Here is the official message from Grandma Carole:
"Jon and Bethany welcomed their twin baby girls, Sage and Raina at 11:46 pm and 12:14 am Aug. 26 and 27th. Nicely Done! Aimie, Bethany's nurse sister was at her side and we Fuquas and Dieides were cheering from the windows. Even with all the modern convieniences of today, childbirth has some uncomfortable situations but Bethany is a true trooper and in the words of their OB-GYN is a "rock star". Sage came first a little taller and 10 oz bigger at 5#13 oz and Raina, not far behind, at 5# 3oz. They are darling!!!! Father Jon doing very well and noticed the babies are held football style most of the time so no problem. Most of the Fuquas have had to go home but Grandpa Randy is coming today. We sure thank Bethany and Jon for this wonderful addition and continued best of wishes for the coming days."

The Warburton Home in Avon, Utah

While in Utah we drove up to see Jeanne's daughter's home in Avon (past Brigham City). It has this wonderful wraparound porch!
There are also umpteen rooms for family gatherings...
What is really amazing is this view from all sides of the porch--really gorgeous. This is Mick, Carole's husband.
This is a picture of Carole, her daughter, daughter-in-law and granddaughter plus her Mom Jeanne, myself and sister Marilyn. Great home in a really cool place!

Visit Sisters in Utah

At a restaurant in Midway.

Since I didn't get to use my plane ticket to Utah for the BYU Homecoming in October I flew in on July 15th and we gathered at my sister Jeanne's in Orem for a week of chatting, eating and celebrating Jeanne's 80th birthday. She looks more like 50! Beautiful skin with hardly any wrinkles. She didn't spend her time in the sun like I did.

I had never been to Thanksgiving Point so we did a quick trip there and shopped in this wonderful vintage shop.

Sister Carole, she is the only one still in Montana.

We went to Julie's (Jeanne's granddaughter) to pick her up for lunch and her son Nixon entertained us royally.
Julie has decorated her house so beautifully.
Julie, Carole and Jeanne at a French boutique for lunch.

Marilyn, Janet and David's wife Tammy also at lunch. David is Jeanne's son.

Jeanne's granddaughter Ginger, the world traveler and adventurer. She is the daughter of Carole and Mick.

Our brother David and wife Dorothy, still looking very young and spry.

Jeanne's grandson Stan (Norma and Bryan's) and wife and son Emerson.

Jeanne's granddaughter Julie next to the friend of grandson Michael, Juliana, grandson Michael (Doug's) and grandson Trevor's wife and daughter.

Several grandchildren have lived a time with Jeanne while going to school. This is Julie, daughter of David Thayne and Gina, and mother of Nixon and wife of Morgan.

It was a fun party with a book being given to Jeanne of rememberances, gifts and nice things being said about her. Lots of good food but no birthday cake!! Michael and Juliana said they would bake one on her real birthday day.

Jacob's Heritage

Since I am going back down to San Diego next week I decided to take something I made for Jacob on the day he was born. Jacob is 10 years old now and I had actually forgotten about it.
Anyway it is an Ahnentafel Chart which is his direct ancestors as far back as are shown in the Family History Center computer on that day Feb 3, 1999. Of course, it does not have all his direct ancestors on each line but it goes for 15 generations and the 15th generation has 54 listed. Most of them are from Richard's side of the family when it gets back that far but mine go back to the 13th generation.
Then I took from the direct ancestors as shown in the royalty lines and take it back to about the 900s.
What he will find is that most of his ancestors come from England and Sweden but he had a lot in the American colonies in the 1600-1700s and prior to 1500 had ancestors from France, Belgium, Scotland, Poland, Spain and Germany, etc.
The darker skin that some of the children and grandchildren have must be that French and Spanish influence, certainly not the Swedish.
